Homemade chai simple syrup, rich bourbon and a touch of vanilla come together in this Chai Old Fashioned to add a tea-riffic twist on the classic cocktail.
Ingredients
Chai Simple Syrup
- 4 tsp Mardi Gras Indian Spiced Chai
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup honey
Chai Old Fashioned
- 2 oz bourbon
- 1 oz lemon juice
- 1 dash orange bitters
- 1-2 oz chai tea syrup
- Cinnamon stick, orange peel and star anise, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Chai Simple Syrup
- Steep Mardi Gras Indian Spiced Chai in 1 cup boiling water for 10-15 minutes.
- In a medium pot, bring tea and honey to a boil over high heat. Boil 3-5 minutes, then remove from the heat. Stir in the vanilla. Let cool. (Can store in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.)
Chai Old Fashioned
- In a cocktail shaker, combine the bourbon, lemon juice, orange bitters and 2 tablespoons of the chai syrup. Shake to combine.
- Strain into a glass.
- If desired, garnish with cinnamon and star anise.
